information below is intended to provide guidance to
an
Incidence Command Officer
or Base Camp Operator
when preparing to initiate
a search.

Call in search dogs as part of your initial Response Team.
Dog/handler teams are trained to respond day or night. |
|
Gather good maps of the area and have several copies
available
for search personnel. |
|
Gather accurate information on the person such as
description;
clothing/shoes; habits; health; age. |
|
Set up command post away from the Point Last Seen. |
|
Preserve the Point Last Seen. |
|
Establish communications and have radios available. |
|
Have personnel very familiar with the area as a resource
for the search. |
|
Start to divide the area into search sectors using
natural
boundaries, roads, streams, etc. |
|
Make sure the dispatcher has good directions for the responders. |
